Marty would be showing up in the 90s with a mustache and crop top, confused as to why everything is smoky as hell and why so many people are calling him homophobic slurs, as he has to figure out how to get onto and use the internet. Also a lot of his slang will be incomprehensible to the people of the 90s
Edit: I forgot the biggest thing! Cell phones weren’t common yet. Getting ahold of someone while they weren’t home or at their desk was unlikely to succeed.
I think a big part of that is how the 80s/90s had inherited a lot from the 1950s that never really made it over the 2000s divide.
So what you had in the 1980s was 50s revanchism that dominated mainstream culture while a strain of alt-media was growing in the cracks. And now that old 50s/80s culture has been fully strangled by an outgrowth of 90s/00s culture which has become the cornerstone of modern media and culture.
FFS, there’s a Hillary Duff revival going on. Won’t be long until Britney Spears is rediscovered and we have another Bush running for the White House.
