Hello. I’ve been silenced, removed and blocked enough on lemmy dot ml for being a filthy leftist but not a falling in line defending totalitarian states full blown authoritarian communist. • Ha, smack them in the face with the lunchbox and then take a lunch break sitting on their chest while they are down.

I’m expecting proper furniture too to return to fashion now that people are starting to realize that the cheap furniture they have gotten used to is garbage. Even IKEA that used to be ok quality and all right looks for cheap with particle board and veneer have degraded to cardboard and plastic print that weighs nothing and breaks if you give it a harsh glance.

I’ve got almost exclusively my furniture and plenty of kitchenware and other stuff second hand, except working desks and proper chairs and things like kitchen knives. My furniture pride and joy is a vintage 70s leather sofa from DeSede, obviously with a wooden frame and also weighs a ton. And it is so beautiful and has plenty of character that you’d need to invest €10000-€30000 to find something similar new today when everything remotely affordable looks bland and samey.

That said, I understand your wife. I’ve come to realization several times over the years that I have way more of various utensils that I ever need, but I just didn’t want to see them getting scrapped for no reason. I really loathe the wasteful culture of today, seeing people tear out beautiful mid century modern kitchens to keep up with this season’s shade of greige. I’ve stopped looking for more stuff, but still when I see nice kitchenware in the dumpster, I sharpen the kitchen knives and haul them off to the local goodwill for less fortunate to have good things. Even if they are cheap IKEA kitchenwares, they are still useful for somebody else. At least give it away instead of trashing perfectly good things.

But health has taken a downturn the last years and I can’t go second handing any more like I used to, so I try to buy new stuff that is somewhat sustainable and will last for a long time. Like this bottle that, unless I mess it up, should outlive me and after future adventures eventually be recycled into something new.
