World News@lemmy.world•A young girl is knocked over at Tokyo crossing – what’s behind Japan’s ‘bumping’ trend?English
11·29 days agoSure, but the source of the problem is people with Main Character Syndrome that don’t think twice about setting up camp right in the flow of traffic, all for those sweet, sweet fake internet points, or to park their shopping cart across the middle of the aisle while they ponder exactly what flavor of free range organic ketchup they want this week.

World News@lemmy.world•A young girl is knocked over at Tokyo crossing – what’s behind Japan’s ‘bumping’ trend?English
20·29 days agowhat’s behind Japan’s ‘bumping’ trend?
The author is constantly trying to make this a “gender dynamics” thing, but I knew the cause before reading the article. It’s sprinkled throughout…
while some wondered if it was wise to take photographs in the middle of a packed intersection.
as hordes of visitors hoping to capture a perfect Instagram moment descend on busy locations in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka to pause and film.
warned its citizens to keep a safe distance from others in crowded places and to avoid using their smartphones while walking
At the very end of the article, the author finally cones around to the simple answer.
She said she had been criticised and insulted online for taking photos of her daughter, who was uninjured, on a pedestrian crossing.
“I admit I may have been careless about the flow of people. But it wasn’t like I was ignoring traffic rules,” she said, adding that she had been following Chinese-language advice provided on Go Tokyo, a website run by the Tokyo Convention and Visitors Bureau, which tells visitors they “can even stand at the intersection and take a picture”.
I feel like this is a recent problem in a lot of places, and it’s not just tourists taking pictures. It seems like it’s much more common these days for people to be blocking the aisle in the grocery store with zero awareness of those around them, as just one example I’ve witnessed repeatedly. It’s almost as if COVID taught people to be self absorbed assholes and not give a shit about others.

28·2 months agoAll three streamers were then held in January last year but released after they insisted the on-screen violence was all part of “an act aimed at creating buzz so as to earn money”.
Act or not, I cannot quantify the utter disdain I have for anyone who wants to watch garbage like that. Absolutely shitty human trash, every damn one of them.
Edit: And just to be abundantly clear, I’m not talking about the two pieces of garbage that just got taken into custody. I’m taking about the thousands of pieces of human feces that were getting their jollies watching another person get abused.

I found a bunch of “reputable” news sites all talking about this as if it just happened. I had to really dig to find something actually posted a year ago, but… there it is.
I fucking hate this “rush to publish, fact check
laternever” news cycle. So, the date in the video above seems to be intentionally misleading. Downvoting.

44·3 months agoWhere are you getting that information? The article very clearly indicates that this happened on Jan 20, 2026, and there’s no date that I see visible in the video (in the article).
Edit. The video posted above actually does have a date, and it’s January 20, 2026. So, not a year ago at all.

World News@lemmy.world•'Words you might understand': Danish pol reprimanded for shockingly blunt message to TrumpEnglish
36·3 months agoone that saw the lawmaker censured for his use of an expletive.
Trump is rapidly turning one of their former allies into one of their worst enemies (against the will of it’s own people), and these asshats are afraid of someone using adult words.

I haven’t seen any news media yet show the courage to call this what it is, a threat of genocide.
