I feel like kids in the 80s and 90s were forced to do more physical activity leading to kids who overate looking more like football linemen. Now they do nothing physical and look more like Jabba the Hutt.
A lot of this is just the loss of proper third spaces where kids can get outside. Now if you and your friends are walking around the mall, you get security hassling you. Hell, even if you’re just in a park or wandering your neighborhood, cops/rangers/randoms will give you shit if you don’t have a specific reason to be there. Don’t even think of trying to hang out at your school after hours, or using their fields/playgrounds to play on.
Yes, some of it IS cultural. But at least from my N=4 between my nieces and step nieces, kids really enjoy playing outside weather permitting. It’s just that they don’t have places to do that. Sure, you might have a park in your neighborhood - does it have sidewalk access? Sure, your kids might have bikes or scooters or skates - can they safely ride them without getting turned into a speed bump by a high-line truck or SUV?

Husky boys roll out!
I got called husky a lot as a kid. But I was probably just fat.
Judging by your pictures I’d say yes.
The difference between fat via whole foods and fat via fast foods.
The 1950’s to 1970’s were not known for whole food. It was the era of Fruity Pebbles for breakfast, a Tastee cake with lunch, and a dinner made with Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup and other canned goods.
Maybe not whole foods per se but more whole than modern diets. The main point was in fast food diets. You think the growth hormones we pump into livestock doesn’t make it’s way into us? Take a look at the kids today raised on the stuff whose parents still get them a Happy Meal™️ every Friday. It isn’t as simple as a a calorie surplus, the shit is endocrinologically changing people’s whole biochemistry from the cradle. Kid’s bodies today do not handle or distribute excess calories like they used to.
Uhhh i saw tons of kids like this when i was a teenager and i’m pretty sure they still exist. And continue to be “husky” into adulthood.

“Even the hands?!”
If you haven’t seen Detroiters, do yourself a favor, and go binge it.
Keep your wallet as fat as your kid
“Athletic fat guys” rofl
I’m an unathletic fat in some places, oddly skinny in other places guy. nice calves tho.
They call us “big and tall” now, duhh!
Except none of it is for tall anymore. It used to be, years ago when they first started this, I could get size LT in the store for two dollars more, and they were a little longer. I still have a couple in my closet. Not anymore. “Big and tall” is only big now, and that means 3XL+ shirts, that are still too short. Of course, if I wear a 3XL shirt, it does hang lower, because it fits like a tent.
